Marble, limestone, alabaster, slate, basalt, and granite are found in Egypt having diverse features and qualities but the problems are in extracting them from mines or quarries and in processing them. The methods of extracting the raw materials affect to a great extend the quality and value of the stones. This research is a case study applied in Egypt to identify the different extraction technologies currently in use to extract marble blocks. The study also investigates the governmental regulations which affect the extraction activities and benchmarking these regulations with other countries adopting new technologies for the extracting process. The study aims at finding out the effect of the used extraction technologies used on the quality of the extracted blocks. This also reflects the export potential of the Egyptian stones. The study also investigates the effect of using old extraction technologies on the environment and on the marble reserves in Egypt. The study confirms that using the new exploration and extraction technologies reduce the waste of natural resources and increase the value of the Egyptian marble blocks. Using such technologies need a lot of investment and training for the workers but it is more profitable on the long term and reduce the injuries of the workers in the quarry. In this respect governmental regulations have to be changed to attract investors to invest more in the quarries. The study also reviled that more rules and regulations have to be issued to make the technology importers and service providers of machines more supportive and cooperative ER -
